SAFE-TE

An immersive VR Hazmat training simulation where instructors can create their own lessons.

Trainees who work with hazardous materials such as chemical and biological waste industry workers have to get extensive training to do their jobs effectively and avoid workplace injuries. However, the most popular training methods used today (classroom, web-based training, and real-life drills) have several shortcomings including failure to provide any realistic experiences of an emergency situation, limited interactivity, poor knowledge retention, and high cost. Benten proposed to develop an innovative mobile application named SAFE-TE that leverages Augmented Reality to deliver HAZMAT/HAZWASTE training. The SAFE-TE app will allow trainers to customize training scenarios by placing virtual objects in physical training space and creating dialogue and action flows for training. SAFE-TE will create a safe, mixed-reality training experience that yields better retention times and improves educational outcomes.

What is the problem: Poor engagement and retention in HAZMAT/HAZWASTE training put industry workers at risk for workplace injuries

What we offer: A mobile app that can create a safe, mixed-reality training experience that yields better retention times and improves educational outcomes.
